Sign up to Morning Brew today for FREE: ~ Game watches, game watches, game watches, legend has it, that if you say this 3 times into a mirror, one will magically appear on your wrist. Legend also has it, that you may become so infuriated with the game, that it gets smashed in seconds. However, there were actually decent game wrist watches, and the history of this gaming medium is both interesting and colourful. Join me, as we begin in 1977 and journey though the Casio Game 10, the GCE Game Time, Nelsonic game watches and of course, Tiger's offerings.

  • I donโ€™t care what anyone says, I still think playing a game on any watch is still cool. One time at work, I watched my friend on our lunch break playing Tetris on his Apple Watch. My mind was blown. ๐Ÿคฏ

  • Makes me wonder if any of them had a dot matrix display. I know a few watches did, but they were databanks rather than game watches. Would have been interesting to ssee a dot matrix game watch... maybe a few games were actually made for those databank watches. I wear a watch today. right now in fact, but only because it belonged to me dad, and it's a basic analogue Timex timepiece. If only he had the Casio dual analogue/digital timepiece that I used to have, that was a great watch.

  • Oh, the joy I had of completely ruining lazy teacher's days in school by randomly turning off the TV with my remote controller watch. Serves them right for thinking wheeling out a TV and putting on a 20 year old VHS tape for 50 minutes of a 60 minute lesson was "teaching". Always threw them off the track by doing it through the window in passing when they were doing the same to a completely different class. I think in the end many of them gave up and were forced to do some actual teaching and practical experiments for a change.

I also had a couple of those watches that transformed into robots. One of transformed and was also a working radio when the ear plug was plugged in. Almost all my memories of 4th grade are of playing at my desk and doing no work.

  • Bro, I have had a thing for calculator watches and watches in general since I was a kid. I remember at summer camp when I was like 8 years old, playing with my calculator watch in the dark up in my bunk (there was 8 campers to a cabin) to the point my camp counselor had to say "We understand and get that you are very proud of your watch, but could you please stop until the morning when everyone isn't trying to sleep?" Just for reference I'll be 40 years old in a few months. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ
