Why is a Fossilised Keyboard in this Pavement? | Nostalgia Nerd
If you walk to the point where Elm Hill meets Prince's Street, in Norwich, and look down, you'll find a prehistoric looking fossilised keyboard in the pavement. How did this "pavement keyboard" get here, and what purpose does it serve?
Huge thanks to Molly Sole for agreeing to take part in this video.

If I was this artist. I would never admit to it or come out about how I did it. I would feel that the mystery and ideas of how it came to be would be the art its self, and knowing that I effected so many people in such an intriguing way would be my reward. I feel like by coming out about it you end that fun and the art becomes less interesting. But still a cool story non the less.
Jesus christmas, she is so cute and she did this in 1998? American healthcare is trash, shes almost 40 and looks like 25 year old americans lol
More like a theory than a conspiracy theory really. Who conspired when the keyboard fell of the truck.
I'm calling it now, a Time Traveller took his PC back some time ago and at some point left this keyboard in the area.
Darn reality, why are you so boring! :(
‘So i booked a ticket’
Uh, its not FOSSILIZED, its embedded. Fossilization is a process wherein the atoms of the original item are chemically REPLACED by cations from the surrounding material. Thereafter the atoms of the fossil are no longer the original atoms of the original burred item. The difference is significant and important.
time traveller 1: were back time traveller 2: I think I dropped something time traveller 1: hey where's your keyboard?
This one was a really interesting one. finally someone explained what the heck that keyboard was.
my first thought was to get a keyboard and make a mold of it so that I could do the same thing. My second thought was where do I get wet concrete?
Sp, you live in the same town as Mr Ashens. Interesting. Have you ever been for a coffee together?
Some stupid humans in the future will claim it as evidence for their religion.
I've walked past (and on it) so many times! Our cities got lots of little intricacies in it!
Hey, it turns out you can speak rather normal when talking to other people :P
Good work mate! In a way it's sad the legend is solved though!
WoW awesome Investigation!
That keyboard needs to be rescued and repaired.
I really really like computers. How about you?
I saw it yesterday as I was passing by, so cool
Cool story. She's pretty cool.
Why would you not zoom in on the keyboard after saying "Thank and good evening" at the end?
I went on a boatey holiday on the Norfolk Broads with the lads when I was a teenager and ended up in Norwich, after growing up in Liverpool it was pretty dull, although thing were exciting in Liverpool sometimes for the wrong reasons, but I digress. We went to some nightclub and it was like something out of the 1970's saying that it was the 1980's at the time so it wasn't as bad as it first sounds. Anyway we had a great time being snotty teenagers and laughing at the locals doing there best Saturday Night Fever routines.
Great video and research. It took me about 7 minutes from never having heard of this keyboad to being intensly invested in it and wanting to visit Norwich to see it for myself.
This os so funny. And all those people who were so wrong, but demanded they were right, must feel foolish now. lol.
This is a wonderful video
egg head man was searching on that computer
norfolk represent!
And even now that piece makes an amazingly cool statement of how the digital world has marked our world. Truly cool stuff.

Might be one of its kind now, but this will be a common sight in 50 million years.
Very interesting story.
Because someone realized AI would take over and they wanted to mess with computer babies 200,000 years from now?
This was strangely therapeutic to watch... Well done mate, you should do a series on these modern folk tales!
Never wanted to know about this ever.... due to never hearing about it ever, granted there is little a pond between it and myself so perhaps not that surprising. Still, I loved hearing this, simply a great little story to stumble across. edit: fixed a typo
This was quite a charming video. I rather enjoyed it. Thank you.
Ahh lovely Norwich :)
Plastic can mineralized on the outer surface but it does not fossilize
....dude that's not a real keyboard it's a imprint otherwise you would see the plastic were the concrete cracked
I legit saw that it was made from a mold the second I saw it
Click click click click
Theory before I watch. Some dude raged so hard that they yeeted it into the wet pavement, and it never got removed. Edit: Seen the light. "Reality is often disappointing"
Nice video but i do stamp concrete all the time. There are dinosaur stamps that will leave an impression of fossils in the concrete.I guess a keyboard is kinda fitting for the times.
5:48 [COCKEREL SHRIEKS]
It's so good someone took photos of her doing it! Coincidentally I was offered a place at Norwich school of Art and Design the year before Molly so perhaps I would have known her personally had I not flopped my A-levels
Ok, so what is the definition of a fossil?? ......wait, is this clickbait?
Ummmm, aren't there hungry people to feed in the world & people without housing? Why are we wasting time & resources on this?
when you know that the answer including some background could be given in half a minute ^^
Lovely stuff.
They are predictions. They showed us this will exist.
9:11 That's not a poker face! That's a (Oh sh:t!) face. I wonder why?
Being a time-traveler myself, I can confirm, with some authority, that there is no real mystery here.
I'm not saying it's aliens, but...
Looks like someone carved it into the ground
Someone go get the University art department to make a Blue Plaque and put it on the wall.......!
It's called art
Time Travel
It's simple. Ancient aliens needed a way to program their guidance computers, and an advanced civilization isn't going to settle for punchcards
One artist making a statement on technology. One pavement layer that said "I'm not paid enough to fix this."
Imagine if that keyboard had 1 clickable key that unlocks something
Gonna admit that right off the bat I thought you were Brian Brushwood.
I reckon some highway maintenance people laid cement on the floor not realising or caring that there was a PC keyboard on the floor lol
lies... it was left there by aliens and our computers started out of a photo of that pavement.
Jesus. The council needs to sort out the pavement
Can plastic be fossilized ? I mean it non organic.....it does not take too much to make a mold and stick it in the ground
Sidewalks are regularly vandalized and sometimes it's by accident. The fact she had something handy to vandalize it was probably a coincidence.
This fossilized keyboard is PROOF the Earth is only 6000 days old! Read your Bible! PRAISE JESUS!!!!1!!!1
The Bible tells us there’s nothing new under the sun. ☀️
I understand where you're coming from but did you watch the video? It's an art installment .
Reminds me of that one comic book sketch were Gaston Lagaffe was watching people paving over the old sidewalk with new cement, he accidentally bumped his coke bottle, it fell straight into the cement and it stuck out.... "since then, 50 people fell, 12 ended up with a scraped knee ans 235 curses were shouted."
Molly is looking fantastic for her age!
Looks like his Facebook is in Pirate Speak
Prehysteric nonsens. 🤣😂🤣
huge tom scott vibes from this video, great job!
I don't understand how anybody could think this keyboard was pre-80's.
Stamp
Someone should restore it
The folklore would've been that it was supposed to be in the 1980s the truck lost it
Still looks better than my keyboard 🤣
I like that there's a keyboard fossilized in the concrete. But it's probably going to get removed by some boomer who thinks it ruins the sidewalk
As soon as I saw that I thought some bored dude just put a mold in it
You could say this was the KEY BOARDom idea.
god, I love modern art.
When we got on the video call I thought "this woman is lying, there is no way that she is older than 25 right now". Then they had the picture of her actually doing it!
It’s impressive how much credibility is given to people commenting online these days. Almost 4 minutes before starting to see some sort of serious research.
Normally in my town you only find dog paws
Commodore 64, Vic 20 ?? Anyone?
Brilliant, Molly. Thank you.
it would be cool if they repoured that concrete and she re-did the piece itsa ll crumbled anyway and needs repair, someone shoul give her a call when they repair that spot.
Well, what it was is hardly a mystery. It's just who did it. Anyone who didn't instantly think "Someone printed it with a mould" is pathetically dull in the head and should be grateful for any career they've managed to acquire. I won't take what internet debates have said at face value because so many people just talk bullshit for the sake of it, myself included. But any of those _"serious"_ people really should feel bad for their terrible deductive skills.
i swear when i was a kid i remember keyboards sometimes had a plastic cover that could go over it, probably to stop dust or something. Anyway, i remember it being a hard transparent plastic that was moulded to the shape of the keys. It would make the perfect mould to push into wet concrete.
just discovered this fella, now time to settle in for a binge watch.......thanks bud!
Glad you cleared this up for all the idiots
The stories of people saying their dads told them if fell off a truck are probably true. Only, the dad's made them up because it sounded interesting.
Brilliant!
Excellent video! As a result of this I'll definitely subscribe! However, I must say that 'ye olde' is pronounced 'the old' because the use of the term "ye" used to be written þe, employing the Old English letter thorn 'þ', which got replaced with the 'y'. Ye as a pronoun is pronounced ye. So now you know.
The best thing in this was the interview confirming the when and why and who. The second best thing was seeing how people just make up stuff (and how gullible people 'Liked' the comments of how it was a Remington typewriter or from the 1950s or the 1800s when it's clearly a computer keyboard with the number pad on the right hand side).
I call bullshit it was all by accident. First thing, the kind of concrete used on paths doesn't mould well to the fine details of a keyboard. There's too much chunks of coarse gravel. Second, she said she was just walking to school and happened to see a spontaneous opportunity to do some street art. While someone else took photos of her doing it. So spontaneous. Still looks cool, tho. Not arguing with that. :)
Damn, I live near Norwich and I've never heard of or seen that before!
mad respect for having your facebook on pirate
I love these mystery videos that actually have closure
It was probably sent from the future into the past.
Took me nearly 4 minutes in to realize you had pirate mode on... I completely forgot about that setting
